03 Linear Notes

The KEEP SAFETY FIRST sign is based on a safety sign at my former workplace.

When I want to reference something but I can’t find the exact book, tv show, or movie that I’m thinking of or when I don’t have the time to cross check my references, I’ll often make up a fictional property to reference. It helps with worldbuilding as well. The scene from Rina Chira is obviously based on Scooby-Doo cartoons and we’ll likely see the show and its characters again in the future since I like reusing worldbuilding elements.

I do plan to eventually introduce girl groups and co-ed groups. I’ve already have a few group names picked out. The reason why I didn’t start with a girl group in the first place has to do with the genesis of the project, but that’s a story for another day.

The poem Mark is thinking of is “Richard Cory” by Edwin Arlington Robinson. At the moment he doesn’t remember the poem’s ending. This poem will return again in the future and this isn’t the last we’ve seen of the Ruthvain family either.

I’ve never really like the word “pulchritudinous,” likely because I subconsciously associate it with the word “putrid.” To my ears, it’s kind of a fleshy sounding word.

Some of the monsters in this waiting room are completely made up by me and others were based on Southeast Asian monsters (like the Philippine Manananggal). I adore world mythology, mythological creatures, and folkloric monsters and this series is a great excuse to include as many as I can.
